Who the fuck are giardini di miro’?
Giardini di Miro’ come from the province of Reggio Emilia, in particular from a town, Cavriago, that in dialect it’s called “Quariêgh”, a place of nearly ten thousand souls, whose honorary mayor, from 1917, is Vladimir Lenin. The group’s music however, is more Anglo-Saxon influenced, in particular at the beginning it refers to the end of the century post rock but now is just a mix of psychedelia, shoegaze, dream pop, noise, post punk but also songwriters music. Since 2001 with the first official album “Rise and Fall of Academic Drifting” Giardini di Miro’ are referred to the Italian indie-rock scene, even if the vocation of the group is to be part of a larger scene , European and more. For this reason gdm played in half-Eupean clubs and festivals . From the first album, the tours in Germany are ten, three in Greece and a lot of concerts everywhere from Switzerland to Belgium, Luxembourg to Poland, from Spain to Norway.
The band includes Jukka Reverberi (guitar, vocals), Corrado Nuccini (guitar, vocals), Luca Di Mira (keyboards) and Mirko Venturelli (bass, clarinet, saxophone), Emanuele Reverberi (violin, trumpet). From 2003 until 2011 the drummer was Francesco Donadello, now is Andrea Mancin.
The official story begins in 1998 with the first self-produced EP and the first live performances even if the band borns, in 1995 by a collaboration between the then universities friends Corrado Nuccini and Giuseppe Camuncoli, now well-known cartoonist.
The band’s discography is rich of publications, in addition to the five albums “official” Rise And Fall Of Academic Drifting (2001), Punk … Not Diet! (2003), Dividing Opinions (2007), Il Fuoco (2009), Good Luck (2012) there is a multitude of ep, remixes, unreleased collections, with independent labels (2nd rec, Fictionfriction, Love Boat, Contact , Earsugar). The group has collaborated with many musicians: Sara Lov Hood, Alessandro Raina, DNTL, Alias, Hermann & Kleine, Styrofoam, Apparat, Piano Magic, Isan, Paul Anderson, and many others.
Today Giardini di Miro’ are a group of people united by passion for music and desire to play together, all traveling in a small van to reach the Italian and European stages and sleep in a double or triple room depending on the location and rooming . The formation is completed with Michele Venturi and Andrea Sologni, respectively ideological navigator and sound sommeliers.
I Giardini di Miro’ provengono dalla provincia reggiana, in particolare da Cavriago che in dialetto di dice “Quariêgh”, un comune di quasi diecimila anime il cui sindaco onorario, dal 1917, è Vladimir Lenin. La musica del gruppo vive però di influenze anglossassoni, in particolar modo inizialmente si rifà al post rock per arrivare ora ad un suono proprio che è in un mix di psichedelia, shoegaze, dream pop, noise, post punk, musica d’autore e molto altro. Dall’uscita del primo album ufficiale del 2001 “Rise and fall of academic drifting” i giardini di mirò sono indicati come un gruppo di riferimento del fenomeno indie-rock italiano anche se la vocazione del gruppo è quella di far parte di una scena più ampia, europea e non solo. Per questo motivo i gdm calcano con entusiasmo i palchi di mezz’Europa. Dall’uscita del primo album sono otto i tour tedeschi, tre in grecia e sono moltissimi i concerti ovunque, dalla Svizzera al Belgio, dal Lussemburgo alla Polonia, dalla Spagna alla Norvegia.
La formazione comprende Jukka Reverberi (chitarra, voce), Corrado Nuccini (chitarra, voce), Luca Di Mira (tastiere) e Mirko Venturelli (basso, clarino, sax), Emanuele Reverberi (violino, tromba). Dal 2003 fino al 2011 il batterista del gruppo è stato Francesco Donadello, ora ha preso il suo posto Andrea Mancin.
La storia ufficiale inizia nel 1998 con il primo ep autoprodotto e le prime esibizioni live anche se tutto nasce prima, nel 1995 da una collaborazione fra gli allora compagni d’università Corrado Nuccini e Giuseppe Camuncoli, oggi noto fumettista.
La discografia della band è ricca di pubblicazioni, oltre ai cinque album “ufficiali” Rise And fall of Academic Drifting (2001), Punk… Not Diet! (2003), Dividing Opinions (2007), Il Fuoco (2009), Good Luck (2012) esiste una miriade di ep, remix, raccolte di inediti, con etichette indipendenti di tutto il mondo (2nd rec, Fictionfriction, Love Boat, Contact, Earsugar). Il gruppo ha collaborato con tantissimi musiciti da Sara Lov a Hood, Alessandro Raina, DNTL, Alias, Hermann & Kleine, Styrofoam, Apparat, Piano Magic, Isan, Paul Anderson, e molti altri.
Oggi i giardini di mirò sono un gruppo di persone unite dalla passione per la musica e dal desiderio di suonare insieme, viaggiano tutti stretti in un furgone per raggiungere i palchi italiani ed europei e dormono in camere doppie o triple a seconda dei luoghi e degli accoppiamenti. La formazione dei giardini di mirò conta anche Michele Venturi e Andrea Sologni, rispettivamente navigatore ideologico e sommelier del suono.
